WHAT IS YOGA?

Although many people think of yoga as a fitness exercise, it is actually a holistic life philosophy that originated more than 5,000 years ago in India.

The word "yoga" means "Unity" and refers to the fusion of body, mind and spirit through meditation, breathing and physical postures.

The postures, also called asanas, were developed to strengthen the body, improve health and

prepare for meditation.

There are many different styles of yoga, ranging from gentle, meditative forms such as restorative yoga to the ashtanga style. fast paced.

Yoga is for all types of people and for all ages. Asanas or "yoga postures" promote good health, although in different ways compared to physical exercises, "placing the physical body in positions that also cultivate awareness, relaxation

and concentration."

Through the practice of yoga asanas, one places the body in positions that are not often practiced in everyday, modern life and thus helps maintain long-term range of motion through as we get older.
